Which YouTube videos can I use?
Most public YouTube videos work — podcasts, vlogs, interviews, news, lessons, recipes: whatever you enjoy watching becomes a lesson. Two things to know: the video must be spoken in one of our 30 supported languages, and a few videos can't be processed — private, age-restricted, members-only or region-blocked videos, and the occasional one YouTube won't let us download.
What kind of videos work best?
Clear, single-speaker audio gives the best results — natural podcast-, interview- or monologue-style videos with one person talking over clean audio transcribe and translate most accurately. Videos with heavy background music, several people talking at once, or dual-language "learn X" teaching formats (where the narrator switches between your target language and English) are harder to segment cleanly. For difficulty, pick a video at — or just slightly above — your current level: you want to follow the gist while still meeting new words. A tool to help you find great immersion videos is coming soon.
How to pick the right level →What if the video has no subtitles?
That's fine. LingoReel doesn't rely on YouTube's captions — it transcribes the audio itself and translates it into clean, audio-aligned sentences. So it works even when a video has no subtitles, and the text always matches what's actually said.
How accurate are the AI transcripts?
Very. We transcribe the audio with speech-recognition models and then re-segment and translate it into tidy, audio-aligned sentences — far more reliable than YouTube’s auto-captions. In clear speech it’s excellent; in very noisy audio the occasional word can slip, but the timing stays aligned so you can always replay the clip.
Can I export my vocabulary?
A one-click export isn't available yet — it's on the roadmap. For now every word and sentence you save lives in your library and comes back automatically in spaced-repetition review.
Is my data private?
Yes. Your account, the words you save and your progress are yours. We don't sell your data, and we only use it to run your learning — nothing more.
